So boring and outdated, good starting principles but the advice doesn't feel universal

This is a fascinating edition of a fascinating book. The investment philosophy of Graham is elucidated through passages from the original 1949 edition of The Intelligent Investor, commented on and modified with passages inserted in 1973 by Graham and then commented on and revised again in 2003 (by Jason Zweig). The result is that a century of financial history is hashed and rehashed by one of the best and deepest investors of the 20th century.

I mostly just read the commentary pieces, but even those were roughly 20 years dated at this point. I will say, the underlying concepts of this book are solid, and it's not a bad place to start learning about investing and the different types of investment.

However, I think Bogleheads' philosophy works better for me, and I learned of that first. So I didn't get a ton of value out of this book.

A ton of good information

If you’re looking into the stock market and plan on making some sort of investment plan, this is a good book since it comes with a ton of examples and advice.
It does however rely on you having a bit of knowledge and on you not hating math :)

Fantastic book! Outdated indeed in some chapters, but THIS is the book to learn about core investing principles. Keep in mind that Graham originally wrote this book in 1949 and last updated it in 1972, with commentary from Zweig in 2003. So, even since then, more than 20 years have passed, which could make one wonder, why read such an old book in an ever-changing investing environment of the 2020s? Exactly for that reason!

It will force you to slow down and not rush into bad investing (speculative-like) decisions. This book won’t teach you modern tactics or ways to get rich quick. Instead, it goes in-depth into the history of investing, the lessons learned from it, and how those lessons can be applied to the ‘intelligent investor’. It’s your attitude toward money and your idea of investing as a whole that will change. You’ll be more comfortable choosing between different securities and analysing them better. I found it super difficult to read, especially as a European with smaller exposure to the American way of investing, taxation, opportunities, even with Zweig’s comments, but it was definitely worth it.
