I decided to give this a listen at the end of June as it was short and it was almost the end of Pride Month.

The premise is good: Claire's ex-husband turns up drunk and accidently dies whilst there; she and her best friend, Mia, run across the country to avoid being arrested for his death. But they seem to be committing crimes in their wake...

The execution however, was disappointing. I found the crimes, although some completely plausible i.e. somehow both of them think the other has paid for the meal but it turns out neither of them have, some of the others were completely over the top and made me want to DNF.

I didn’t understand why they didn’t turn back and pay for their meal. I didn’t understand why they both seemed to be completely obtuse when it comes to being on the run. Hadn’t they watched CSI?!

I was disappointed with the lack of romance especially since this is meant to be a romance novel. Yes, there is a small amount, but it didn’t feel like it was brewing. It happened very close to the ending.

But I enjoyed the narration, it was easy to listen to. I just wish it had been a bit more realistic and relatable.
