Characters were written well and the story fleshed out beautifully. Will be continuing for sure
I loved this book. If you can handle gore (descriptions of blood and organs, etc) read this book.
We follow a cast characters where people start to gain powers and a lot of creatures that no human knew to exist start to appear, some of the creatures wants to kill the humans while others want them to coexist together. The world is very interisting and I wanted to know what was going to happen next all the time.
The book is easy to read, since I managed to read 360 pages in one day (normally I read 20-50 pages a day).
This book has 4 awesome female characters that have point of views (2 of them we get only one chapter with their point of view).
There also gay characters, there was a random couple of guys that are married, and one the main characters is gay. And no one seems care about that, besides the fact if he is going to be able to date the guy he likes.
I need more fantasy books like this where there is more than one girl "that is not like others girls" (or the wife or daughter) and there are lgbtq+ characters.

It isn't too often that I read a book and it checks off everything that I am looking for in a book. The pacing, is great. The mystery and intriguing story keeps the pages turning. And I really enjoyed the way Dalglish introduced magic into this world.
This is an astoundingly great read and for the life of me can't understand why anyone would rate this lower than a 4. If you can get around the more adult theme near the middle-end... this is the perfect read.
I've seen a lot of complaints about themes and fowl language in this book. And to those who are offended by them, do everyone a favor and stick to YA reads kids book sections. There is colorful language and aggressive adult themes here that could have been left out and/or changed because it doesn't really move the story...but it's not a reason to put the book down.
The complaints about the multitude of POVs makes me wonder what kind of books others are reading who complain about that...completely unfounded. We get like...8 different POVs and none but like 4 are consistent enough to even matter in the bigger picture.
This is a fantastic read and I can't wait to see how it continues into book 2.
