overall very cute! a pretty easy read and i liked the two main characters a lot and all of their friends. there were a few things that made me personally cringe but i think that’s more because i’ve seen those tropes in bad fanfiction: 1. anytime an author uses the metaphor of someone having “strong emotional walls” and specifically having one of the characters SAY it to the other and 2.
any time a strong female character who is very set on not having kids changes her mind for a man. this one is extremely personal to me hating that trope so i don’t want to say it’s objectively bad or unrealistic, i just personally dislike it in media when i come across it.

It fades to black, which they should have to tell you up front.

This book caused Emotions™️. One of the most satisfying book endings I’ve read. Probably the most satisfying ending possible for someone who has survived SA. The conclusion for the parallel plot was just as satisfying as the conclusion for the romance. Liya is such a fantastically independent woman I was afraid that a HEA for the romance would quash that, and I am happy to report it did not. Jay is one of the most responsible and considerate book boyfriends I’ve read.

Check trigger warnings! There are some super heavy themes here, personally, I think they were all handled responsibly and with care.

This isn’t a great escapism book, or it wasn’t for me, just because of how emotionally heavy parts of it can be a lot. While I wouldn’t call it great for escapism it hits the spot in a whole other delightful way. Still has that big romance HEA, just with a kick-ass bit of social justice on the side.

what can I say about this book? this was the first time reading a book where South Asians were the maim characters specifically Hindu gujarati therefore I felt like i could really relate to it. it was incredibly great to read about things I could specifically relate to such as traditions and beliefs so I felt a lot more connected to the characters than ever. I strongly felt a connection towards Liya as she has the same view as me on marriage and children within an Indian household and wider society. I just hope one day I would would able to experience this type of love in real life because this book was truly beautiful.
