In The Trouble with Hating You, we meet Liya, a happily single woman who has a successful biochemical engineering career and is not interested in marriage, despite the pressures from her family and community.  Her parents attempt to introduce her to a man they’d like her to consider for marriage and she initially bolts, however they ultimately build a friendship through a shared workplace and a number of run-ins.

Over the course of their slow-building love story we learn about his past and her past, both containing traumas they’ve been carrying.  As they learn to trust each other and their relationship develops, the author also gives storylines to their friends and families to round out the picture of their network.  There’s feisty banter, deep friendships, trauma processing, and romance – all wrapped up in a charming book.  While there are challenging topics, the main feeling I had from the book was hope and rebuilding.  It was a quick and enjoyable read.

Okay listen, this was supposed to be a lighthearted, enemies to lovers, romantic comedy. What did I get instead? Powerful emotion, flawed main characters, perfect besties, a disaster of a family, and the ending each character deserved.

hmm… book was very triggering as someone with SA history in the community as well. there was however no intersectionality and completely ignored class in its work making the read very isolating. plot was alright

Can I have a boyfriend like Jay Shah plz

P.S. Ignore the blurb, this is NOT a romcom. It's more contemporary/women's fiction imo.
