Meh. The pacing was bad and the dialogue was cringey. I would have gone up to a 2.5 if there had been a good smut scene, but everything was fade to black. The cultural elements in this book were interesting and a refreshing change from your stereotypical romance novel, but that was pretty much its only redeeming quality.

It fades to black, which they should have to tell you up front.

This was one of my most anticipated reads since last year when I first heard about it and I have to say it was pretty good, I'm glad I finally got to it. I loved everyone is this book except for Liya's dad and Mukesh obviously. I won't like though I did think Liya was annoying for about a good 90% of the book. With that being said though I did admire her strength for what she has had to deal with in her past and how that followed her around for years after. My annoyance with her was because of Jay. To me she hated him for no good reason and the way she was always so defensive got a bit irritating after a while but in hindsight I get why. Jay Shah. That man was great, zero complaints about him. I loved all of the side characters as well, they were so great. I loved Jay's family as well especially because of how they didn't really pay much attention to the rumors they heard about Liya. As someone of South Asian descent, reading a book with representation is always nice.  Overall this was a really good read.
