A few good points were made that I didn’t know about. Overall, this book didn’t contain much that I didn’t already know. Shelving for now.

This book is an armory for anyone who fights against racism, willingly educates on the topic of racism, whose life is used as an educational tool for the privileged to learn from, and those who can no longer ignore the nausea they feel when then consider their race.

This taught me a lot about how racism is within our systems and how they negatively affect marginalized populations. I appreciated how informed the writing was and the introduction that ties the book’s themes to modern challenges makes this easily relatable if you paid attention to the news at all in the last 10 years.

Solid read that added a lot of context to my perspective. Highly recommend.

Honestly this wasn’t fully the book I expected coming into it. I really expected it to focus heavily on racism against black people versus focusing on the overall topic of race and drawing that back to how it affects black people (or people of other races). However I don’t see that as a negative at all. I learned a lot from listening to this and I would definitely recommend it to others. I appreciated the understanding that this book held and offered for everyone.

It’s sad to know the conversations this book encourages as to have do take place, and yet systemic change seems not to take place. But if it does, like the book implies it does, it’s marginal and that’s still something.
