Super cute. Like Harry Potter magic school, but with way better morals and emotionally intelligent kids. Good topics of ableism and bullying. Looking forward to the next one.
I loved this book and look forward to the rest of the series. It was fun, entertaining, and kept my interest to the point I had to finish the book in one evening! I went into this book knowing some of the reviewers said "It's just like Harry Potter." But I thought, "I LIKED Harry Potter, so then it's a sure bet I will like this."
Yes, the concepts were the same. There is a school, strangers who become friends, magic, good and evil, but you can find this same construct in a lot of books. I thought, as an adult reader, the story was engaging, the characters enjoyable, and while sometimes the interactions were a bit watered down, I had no complaints. It is a Junior Fiction book after all, not a George R.R. Martin book. Overall, well done. Would suggest it to anyone who would like a bit of lighthearted fun reading.

World: I am depressing enough right now that reading melancholy literature is not helping you or your penchant for rumination and insomnia.
Me: Maybe I should read some fantasy novels.
World: Often literary fiction makes me everything that's wrong with me even more real than nonfiction.
Me: I need escapism. I'm picking up a young adult fantasy novel.
Me: Actually this was a middle reader fantasy novel.
Me: I'm not sorry.
World: I'll still be here when you're done with that book.
Me: Don't worry, it's a series.

I wish that there was a 0 star rating.
It took me about 2 months to get about 100 pages in. I couldn't fathom how so many people on youtube/booktube loved this book. I couldn't get through it without dying of boredom. The only hope for the book was if Call and Aaron started dating and then realised that a middle grade book probably wouldn't include gay sex.
This book was tagged with all sorts of fantasy aspects but failed to include the genre of 'boredom' or 'shit'.
I sound bitter...I probably am a bit bitter. I had high hopes/hopes for this book and they weren't met.

I genuinely loved this book.
I don't care if it has similarities to other series, the ideas work and the story flows.
One thing I loved about te book, and I think this was due to it having two authors, was that it was fast paced, it didn't stay anywhere for too long and leave you bored however it didn't move too fast that you couldn't get attatched and it didn't make sence either.
I like Callum's character, he has a lot of aggression in him but in a way that gives him strength, determination and shows you he's persistant, everytime I think of Aaron's character it reminds me of Jason from the 'Heroes of Olympus' series by Rick Riordan. Don't take this is a bad way to all the Jason haters out there, he's tidy, neat, organized but has abit more personality to him then Jason in a sence that he is happy when other people are happy and he just wants to be friends with everyone. As for Tamara, if she isn't the definition of a strong black independent woman, I don't know what is. Coming from the strict perfectionist family who expects nothing lower then the best mannered daughter, with the best teachers, the best magic and the best grades, as soon as she is let into the school leaving her parents behind she instantly drops the phony act and shows of her swag, she is a strong loyal friend who holds the trio together
Another thing I liked about the book is that I got three quarters through it, stopped for a second, and realied that there was no romance. It was refreshing to find a book that didn't need it.
To anyone reading my review contemplating reading it, just do it.
