Did not like it, <they tried to rectify s/a, the whole situation was wrong and I believe that the duke rightfully left>

the first half of this book really had me going with the romance, i loved the build up of the relationship between daphne and the duke and their interractions but from the garden scene on it became such a wild ride.
i heard someone describe it as a train wreck you can’t look away from and that is quite exactly what it was for me
i had kind of a hard time keeping up with the book and the characters after the rape scene, i found daphne and simon likeable as a duo before but after this it was hard to root for their relationship

This is the perfect mix of Pride and Prejudice and Gossip Girl. I did the thing that every reader should not do. I watched the Netflix series before I read the book. However, for once I was so impressed how well the show followed the written work. The Bridgerton family is delightful. The writing is witty and entertaining. The love story is sweet, though full of interesting complications. This book is an easy, fun read for anyone.

I didn’t finish the book because I watched the series, and didn’t like a specific scene in it and the way it was handled. I then learned that the scene in the book was worse and what happened was even more disgusting. As such, it made me lose all interest in the book, and so far I don’t think I’ll pick it up again.

I needed something (what I had presumed to be) light with maybe a little side of spicy after reading a few heavy hitters prior to this one. I’ll admit, I only put this on hold in the library system because I watched the show first. Indeed, the show does follow some details loosely based on this book which was nice to notice as I read. I did like Daphne more as a character in the book compared to her show counterpart - more standing up for herself which was nice to see. Simon is a little questionable but the eventual sex scenes between him & Daphne were nothing to complain about. It did bother me though that Anthony, Benedict (although he seemed more of a follower) and Colin felt the need to barge in to their sister’s life and automatically assume Simon was the one in charge when Simon had stressed a few times the two were partners, it’s their home (Daphne and his) not strictly just his. I also wish
that someone tells these women more about sex?! Why the hell did they let Daphne assume the worst ? Was every women left in the dark this much?
The Featheringtons weren’t heavy duty players in this book, Lady Danbury barely and no French seamstress but overall - I think it accomplished what it was supposed to - British high society and the complexities behind it all. Some plot developments I wish could have been taken out,
disappointed that the non consensual sex that Daphne was responsible for was still there
I also noted that <Simon’s stutter is a huge part of this novel - it didn’t make any appearance on the show. However, Daph was right - why the heck was he going to let his Dad control him from the grave?</spoiler.> So yeah, a few plotlines might have been taken away but overall, not a bad read.

Reading after watching the Netflix adaptation. I was pleasantly surprised at how well Netflix adapted the book, key scenes staying very true-to-book (what a breath of fresh air), but as almost always, I loved the pacing and story in the book better than the show. A few of the show's adaptations and liberties were a great addition for the show, expanding the cast and I'm sure seeding plot points for future seasons from the subsequent books, but true-to-genre, this book solely focused on Daphne and Simon.

The banter between Daphne and Simon was *chef's kiss* perfect as was the sibling dynamic between the Bridgerton siblings (loved the trio dynamic between her older brothers and Daphne especially). Was a bit disappointed Eloise was merely a mention in this book, but I suppose it can't be helped and that her character will be more forthcoming in the future books.
