I loved this book so much. It was a slow burn kind of love. I enjoyed it from the beginning, yes, and by the end of the book I was fully in love.
Plus the representation is wonderful: midlife romance (with sex even implied because middle-aged women also enjoy getting laid) AND (and and and!!!!) a primary character with Down syndrome! (Down's syndrome, technically, because the book is British and this reviewer is in the US.)
I selected it because the "readers who loved" list in the description was spot on - many of my favorites in that list. So glad I went with it and read this one. Really fantastic, would definitely recommend.

There are some authors I consider palate cleansers. Their works are what I read after I’ve finished a particularly long or intensely emotional book, especially one that veers into any kind of violence or abuse. One of my favorite palate cleanser authors for many years was Maeve Binchy, a lovely author of books with pretty much interchangeable female leads who are finding themselves at their aunt’s inn or a new job in Ireland or some such, and end up finding the man of their dreams while intertwined in the stories of everyone else in a (t)wee village. Charming but not necessarily memorable. I found this book to be similar to Binchy’s style - lonely woman, handsome gardener, several lives intersecting, some tragedies and some romance, and everything neatly wrapped up at the end.
