poorly written to me. weird combo of american and british terminology and also strange thesaurus language. read some reviews and did not want to deal with insufferable main character and the ableist handling of a character with downs. no thanks. stopped after 20 pages.

I haven’t finished this book as such, I’m just finished with it. I tried my best and am disappointed not to have liked it more as a couple of people had recommended it but enough is enough and back to the library it has gone. I was finding the endless adjectives kind of tedious and the characters increasingly irritating but I was persevering til I got to “ chip-fed, benefits bred kids, most of whom already believed that the world owed them a council flat, a baby and the latest pair of Nike trainers” Life is too short for such nonsense from a character I’m ( I think!) meant to admire. Too many books, too little time...
