This is the first Christine Feehan book I've read. It was a bit of a cop out since I'm a sucker for MC romance. Even this has a teeny tiny hint of a supernatural element. I really enjoyed the writing. It's so easy to fall into.

This is the first book in the new Torpedo Ink series which follows the Sisters Of The Heart series and that follows the Drake Sisters series. I've been waiting eagerly for a year to read it and it was so worth the wait. It's dark. Very dark. The men of Torpedo Ink were raised in a Russian orphanage and taught from a very young age to kill. They suffer terrible abuse and saw other children murdered in front of them. This was all they knew, so it no wonder they're so screwed up. Bit they will do whatever it takes to make sure other children don't have to go through the same thing. Reaper needed someone like Anya to show him he was a good man. She made him see that what he'd done as a child didn't have to define him as an adult. It will be interesting going forward how each member deals with their individual psychological problems and how the women in their lives help them gain new perspectives.

Russian, assassin, psychic bikers. Need I say more? We have the hahah, we have the broken puppies we have women you’d best not cross and the tightest family that rivals even that of fast and the furious. Spice, characters and plot this ended up being very much my cup of tea

Judgement Road is one of those books that will keep you up all night. At first, I felt a little confused. Like perhaps there was a prequel or something that I missed. But, you catch up pretty quick, and the story makes sense! Anya was a heroine I loved from the start. She is a kind of 'boot and rally' girl. Down on her luck but determined to make a better life for herself. You can't help but root for her. When the girls were mean to her, I cried. Like Anya, I think many women have experience bullying from other women and it always is so upsetting. Women face so many issues that when we turn on each other, its even more crushing. I was glad to see this was addressed and rectified.

If you are sensitive to certain topics, you might want to check out the trigger warning. While I think Feehan handled the topics with appropriateness, this book is full of tragic events that could be upsetting to some readers!

Reaper is exactly what I expect when I hear motorcycle club. He is hardened and will kill without compunction. The club is 'clean' in the sense they don't run drugs or anything,  but they are hired assassins. You get some of the backstory about how all these men grew up and its so sad. The abuse they went through is heartbreaking. Even though Reaper was cold and, at times, cruel, it felt true to his character and understandable.

There are some people in the club with some unique psychic abilities. There is a turn of events where these abilities are used on Anya and I was like "Oh hell no!". I was so enraged! Trust broken!! It was this huge violation and I could not believe it. Its such a huge turning point in the story. The action really picks up after this and the focus becomes saving the wife of another MC president as well as Anya. There is also a few bumps in the 'relationship road' for Anya and Reaper. The man is totally clueless and takes advice from other, equally clueless men. The ending felt a little off to me. I wasn't expecting THAT to be the end of the book. A little anticlimactic perhaps? I'm not sure what exactly felt off, but it just felt unfinished to me.

Ok, y'all know I love my maps. So, initially the author mentions Highway 1 up the coast. So, I instantly think California. But then she mentions Fort Bragg and I think North Carolina. So, I turn to Google and discovered there is a Fort Bragg in California. And also, the city the club is in is a real place! (I'm a geography nerd. I could stare at maps for hours! When I was little and we went to vacation, we had an atlas of all 50 states. I spent hours just looking at that thing! Directionality is my superpower too. I can tell you which way is north, south, east, and west from just about anywhere I happen to be. Pretty lame 'superpower' but whatever!)

So, here is the area the book is set in. The club resides in Caspar, CA. Next, I have expanded the map so you can see where it is in relations to other places in CA.

Judgment Road has rocketed to one of my favorite reads. It is a sort of spin off of the Sea Haven series and I am totally going to binge on that series next! I might just change my Author Love Challenge to Christine Feehan!!!

  • POV: 3rd

  • Tears: yes, parts of the story are so emotional it just made my eyes leak!

  • Trope: MC club

  • Triggers:
SpoilerReaper and the other guys in the club experienced horrible physical and sexual abuse. Feehan handles is with delicacy but what they went through is very horrible.

  • Series/Standalone: stand alone

  • Cliffhanger:
    Spoilerno

  • HEA:
    Spoileryes

Beautiful Killer by Sherilee Gray, Rocco by Sarah Castille, Fear the Beard by Lani Lynn Vale...then you will probably like Judgement Road!

Judgement Road
by Christine Feehan

I ran across this novel by accident and fell in love. I haven’t read any more of the series yet but I will more than likely be adding it to my 2021 TBR list.
Torpedo Ink is an outlaw motorcycle club set up in America by displaced Eastern European orphans. Reaper is the enforcer of the mc with a tragic backstory and fighting inner demons from his childhood. He’s come to peace with himself and being alone until a bartender hired for the mc’s legal endeavor, a bar gets into his head and he can’t let her go. Anya is desperate and homeless holding on to the only job she can get and can’t understand why Reaper wants her gone. Their growing pains in the relationship that develops is heartbreaking and totally rewarding.

Fast and Furious, just finished, review subject to change.

So I like this one, I liked the feel of the club. It had feelings of legitimacy but at the same time they did things differently than the typical 1%er club.

I felt like I was missing a little something what with the President already seeming to have had his story. So I don’t know if this is a spin off or if ai just missed a book somewhere. I made sure to look it up and this came up as book 1. It doesn’t really take away from the story as a whole, it’s just me wanting to know how Czar got his HEA and all those kids, ha. I’ll have to do a bit more digging and find out, I’m guessing it’s definitely a spin-off.

I really enjoyed the action though I have to say sometimes I got lost in the details. I was listen to this one through Audible and really loved the narrator who did this, but I’m wondering if his amazing voice lulled me into a daze a time our two and I missed something, ha. Just means ai ha e tn go back and read/listen again.

Reaper’s story is heartbreaking and his attempts to make himself a better man for Anya definitely pulls at the ol’ heartstrings even when you want to smack him upside the head.

Loved Anya, she is so strong and I adored that she is willing to fight for Reaper but at the same time isn’t willing to put up with his Shite.

Together they are steamy!! I am really looking forward to getting everyone’s (yep all 18 of them) stories!

DNF. I love a tortured hero but I just don't think I care enough for this story to finish it (made it half way). The insta-love wasn't very believable, the hero and heroine had horrible communication with each other, and the way some of these bikers talked just sounds so silly and choppy. Also thought it was a little strange how psychic abilities were mixed in!??
