There are no trigger warnings in the beginning of the book and it needs it, badly. There are graphic descriptions of abuse throughout, making it very difficult to skip since you don't know it's coming. It's also a very major theme and why the motorcycle club started in the first place, so it's unavoidable. It was also very repetitive. I feel it could have been explained in the beginning and then referenced in the story without being directly talked about. I won't be finishing the series. I find that the affinity for the characters is outweighed by the story line of the abuse.
Graphic: Adult/minor relationship, Child abuse, Confinement, Emotional abuse, Mental illness, Pedophilia, Physical abuse, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Suicidal thoughts, Violence, Trafficking, Kidnapping, Death of parent, and Murder

Amazing!
Judgment Road is book 1 of Torpedo Ink by Christine Feehan @authorcfeehan and is a spinoff series from both of the Sea Haven series. Reaper was an assassin for the Russian government & Anya has secrets that will catch up to her. Reaper tells Anya that he wants her until he says it’s over. She agrees, unless he touches another woman. He makes her his old lady. Her past catches up with her & the club takes of the problem. Reaper has a PTSD flashback & hits Anya, then tries to choke her. She gets away, calling Viktor (Czar) to help them as Reaper is going nuts. Czar shows up, helping Anya & calming Reaper down. Anya tells Reaper that he MUST to talk to Czar, Blythe & her as he needs help & obviously can’t go to a therapist. He agrees as he doesn’t want to lose Anya. This was such a fantastic book & I am so excited for the next one!

Thought I’d give this author another try. I read quite a few books by her many years ago but I outgrew them I decided, since it’s been awhile, to try again. It’s still a no.

Judgement Road
by Christine Feehan
I ran across this novel by accident and fell in love. I haven’t read any more of the series yet but I will more than likely be adding it to my 2021 TBR list.
Torpedo Ink is an outlaw motorcycle club set up in America by displaced Eastern European orphans. Reaper is the enforcer of the mc with a tragic backstory and fighting inner demons from his childhood. He’s come to peace with himself and being alone until a bartender hired for the mc’s legal endeavor, a bar gets into his head and he can’t let her go. Anya is desperate and homeless holding on to the only job she can get and can’t understand why Reaper wants her gone. Their growing pains in the relationship that develops is heartbreaking and totally rewarding.

I just want to read Desolation Road and I felt like I needed to read the first book to get the jist of this series. I'm regretting that decision. Also this book is very triggering.
Trigger Warnings: abuse: emotional, physical, and child; blood, gore, graphic injuries, mention of miscarriage, rape, sexual abuse, sexual assault, sexual violence, pedophilia, trauma, PTSD, murder, death, violence, gunshots, gun violence, and physical assault

This is the most exciting book I have read in a long time! So many unexpected twists and turns! Never would have predicted the ending. I would love to read more like this!

There is an absolute reason that I come back to Christine Feehan time and time again. Because of stories like this. It's not just romance, it's got history. Every single person in this story has it, and she tells it. One by one we will get the stories. I will admit she makes me laugh, growl and sob in her stories, but she always has. This story is not different. SO MUCH EMOTION!
I've been done with the "MC genre" for a long time now, but this one just ricochets in my heart and soul.

I did enjoy JUDGMENT ROAD, but I wouldn't really call it paranormal romance.
I'm going to jump right into the characters. It takes a bit to really get to know Reaper, but I liked him. He has a really tough past that wasn't easy to read about. He is pretty deadly and comes across as heartless, but I felt for him and was really rooting for his HEA. Anya is on the run, but we don't really find out from what until way into the story. She is alone in the world and it was easy to connect to her feelings. She didn't trust easily and there were a few times that I wanted to shake her and say OPEN UP a little, but I totally got where she was coming from.
I enjoyed getting to know the secondary characters. They are ALL flawed and it will be interesting to watch them in future books. Having said that, I wasn't totally sold on the back stories of the motorcycle club. It is pretty out there and the facts are a little few and far between. I think maybe this might change as we get to know each member better.
The only paranormal thing happening in JUDGMENT ROAD is the fact that it's mentioned a few times that the members of Torpedo Ink motorcycle club have some talents. There isn't much use of these talents and their talents are an afterthought in the grand scheme of things. Maybe this will change in future books, but as of right now, I don't really feel the paranormal coming through.
Now the romance definitely shines through and the sexy times can get pretty steamy. The relationship between Anya and Reaper is slow to form and has it's issues, but they fit together. When they both let the romance happen it is pure magic.
