Three? That’s a pretty “Meh” review. I’ll typically give it to anything I can finish and not feel like I wasted the time, but this is a short book, so 2.5 is probably a better rating.
It makes zero sense, isn’t all that scary, and is thoroughly predictable. I finished it because so many people raved around it, but I honestly don’t understand why. You need to have some kind of *hook*, and there’s just not one. You can’t identify with any characters, you can’t buy the fog as what it’s supposed to be, and it won’t disturb your sleep wondering if it’s going to creep under your door.
Anyway. It’s thoroughly missable. 70s-80s horror, but there is a reason almost none of those authors made it to the 90s with their popularity intact.

4 Stars
Classic.
This is NOT like the 1980 movie that features Adrienne Barbieau and Janet Leigh. The Fog is one nasty piece of work and James Herbert seemed to like it that way. No quick deaths, no thought-provoking questions. Murder, mayhem, government conspiracy, sexual deviance and a proud middle finger. Kinda like those books from the 80's: [b:Truly Tasteless Jokes One|1463266|Truly Tasteless Jokes One|Blanche Knott|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1320531294s/1463266.jpg|1454144]. It's tasteless and knuckle-dragging, but so damned fun. LOL

This saved me from avoiding Herbert for a while after I read Haunted as I really didn't enjoy that so much. The Fog was just absolutely fantastic. Loved it, didn't want to put it down. Love love loved it!
