I don't remember this book much. It was fine. Short novella in a series I haven't read at all.
Charlotte is a very talented artist but since she is a failure in her families eyes and not very pretty she is confined to the country and the family doesn't even take her with them when they go on vacation, she hasn't seen them in 3 years. She is fed up with her lot in life and decides to ask King for a favor, she wants to be one of the artists hired to paint a church. Charlotte becomes Charlie and is sent to work with Flynn on the church.
Charlotte and Flynn have immediate positive effects on each other even when Flynn believes her to be a guy, which does not last long due to some required doctoring.
I really enjoyed this series and I was so happy to realize there was another story in it, though I was really hoping it would be King's story but once I let that go I really enjoyed this.

Romance novella's always seem to be so squished together. I enjoyed this, but wished it was a bit longer.

I have no idea why this is called “Lady in Red” 🤣
Apart from the title being completely confusing and unrelated, this book was a nice sweet novella! I could do without the self-deprecation but I do love an angsty meet cute.

Cover/title kind of misleading. In spite of the christmassy look, this is not a Christmas story. (There’s one mention of work being due by Christmas, that’s it.) Also, maybe I missed it, but I don’t recall the heroine wearing a red dress???
However, I enjoyed this anyway. Two artists falling in love? Yes please! Also the author shines a light on the obstacles women faced when trying to pursue a passion for anything deemed “unladylike”.

I read this as a bonus novella at the end of [b:Forever and a Duke|44280271|Forever and a Duke (Rogues to Riches, #3)|Grace Burrowes|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1552001349l/44280271._SY75_.jpg|68793681].

The Lady in Red (not sure why this was the title) was my first Kelly Bowen novel and I thought it was very good. I'm a bit of a sucker for books about artists/writers and the creative process, so Charlie and Flynn's story was definitely my thing. I really enjoyed their discussions of the plans for the church artwork, Charlie's conversations with King, and the descriptions of Flynn's Madonna. I'm not an artist myself, but I really appreciate this sort of thing. All in all, this was a good introduction to the works of Ms. Bowen and a nice lead into [b:A Duke in the Night|31933394|A Duke in the Night (The Devils of Dover, #1)|Kelly Bowen|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1502643740s/31933394.jpg|52588202] which is already on my tbr pile.
I did not think the couple had any chemistry, in fact, I found myself shipping Charlotte with King when she went to try to ser her forgery.
I very much enjoyed Kelly Bowen's "The Lady in Red." The main characters, Flynn and Charlotte, were quite well-developed for a novella, and I couldn't help but empathize with both of them. They deserved recognition for their artistic talent but were both forced to pretend to be someone else in order to get it. Also, I am a big fan of historical romances in which the heroine pretends to be a man, and this one was no exception. My favorite thing about the trope is usually the comedic aspect of the hero wondering about his sexuality because he's suddenly attracted to a boy or young man; while that was missing here, this was an entertaining story nonetheless.
I have not read the previous books in the Season for Scandal series, but this novella stood very well on its own, so I did not feel lost at all. I enjoyed meeting some of the characters from the earlier books here, however, and will plan to go back and read them now.
