This book was supposed to be ok to be read as a stand alone but I felt lost a lot in the beginning not knowing the other characters. I didn't find the two main characters very interesting and I just couldn't get invested. The story was alright but I found myself skimming it in boredom. I'm obviously in the minority on this one, perhaps just not in the right headspace for it. I wouldn't recommend starting with this one if you haven't read the others.

I Want More!

I liked Nothing Special VII despite the slow start. Ex and Meridian were so badass. They made God and his crew look like beat cops for once. It was nice seeing the God and his team vulnerable for once. I hope Ex and Meridian are able to get out of their jobs and team up with God and them again or as bounty hunters.

This is such a great addition to the Nothing Special series. It introduces two new characters and shows us the lives of God and Day. I loved the continued relationship of God and Day, it was great to see their love grow.

Ex and Meridian are the new characters and they were really well written. I enjoyed reading about them and hope to see them again in this world.

There are also cameos from some characters from the Promises series which was great to read.

I definitely recommend this series.

I'm not done yet, but I don't want to forget this and I know I will.

The first few chapters, I just could not differentiate between Ex and Meridian. Their descriptions went above my head and so for the first half of the book, I really didn't care about them. I was confused we kept going back to God and Day. And I know this is fiction, but Ex and Meridian as characters was SO far fetched. I think this is my least favorite in the series. You tease me with Fox and Bull and then you give me these mediocre spies.

Ok, back to the 2nd half of the book. Which btw, The characters haven't intersected yet! it's frustrating. Most boring spies I've ever read about!

Okay, so the only thing that saves this book is God and Day and their team! There’s nothing about Ex and Meridian that I like. ZERO! This story is so sloppy.

I read this in one sitting. Straight up non stop.
Ms. Via’s writing sucked me in and I was lost in the action and the pacing.
The mysterious characters of Ex and Meridian were fascinating. Both their history as well as the relationship they have with each other. I was absorbed by what they did.

God and Day were as feisty as always and it’s always nice to see how my favourite department was doing.

Seriously, though the action in this book was intense as Ex deals with the grief and trauma of losing his brother. He takes no prisoners and he wants to see the murderer taken care of. Meridian balances his partner out, allowing him to find alternatives that going in guns blazing.
The scenes involving both groups was fantastic. Especially the restaurant scene. I reread that numerous times, getting every nuance as possible.

You do need to read everybody else’s books first. But they’re all good.

I received an ARC for my honest review

Loved it

Absolutely loved this book and the characters. Another great story with romance, steam, a little fluff, lots of action and plot. What is not good for gang bangers life expectancy. Kill the much loved baby brother of an assassin. Definitely going to get the next one.
