Although it took me a long while to finish this book, once I really sat down and read—it was amazing.

Definitely one of my favorite Cassandra Clare books so far (my absolute favorite, though, remains [b:Clockwork Princess|18335634|Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #3)|Cassandra Clare|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1436788488l/18335634._SY75_.jpg|6309710]). The characters were absolutely heartbreaking and lovely and wonderful; the plot was similar to previous formulas Clare has used, but also so startlingly different. I loved every bit of this book and I've fallen so deeply in love with all of the characters; much like I had in The Infernal Devices, which can only mean one thing: I'm going to cry so much over this trilogy as well as the prequel trilogy, which will feature James Herondale!

Without spoiling the scenarios in the book, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I think it's the strongest beginning to a series that Clare has written–which, as a long-time fan of her Shadowhunter books, is really fun to see! We love that growth, dudes. This book deals with a lot of darker issues that previous installments in other series only lightly touched upon or were not introduced at all. Julian Blackthorn is an especially interesting and complex character; there's definitely something that's off with him, which I started noticing as I read. He's kind of eerie. Like, he's a great guy, but there's just something there that we're not totally seeing yet. It's totally refreshing to see that kind of complexity in a character that we're supposed to be rooting for. I think I'm most interested in Julian and what happens to him.

I'm very excited for the next installment in this trilogy!

So. Frikkin. Good. It's so nice to be back in the shadow world once again. Anxiously awaiting the next installments to see how this is all going to go down!!

No sé que decir. Lo ame, y probablemente sea mi favorito de toda la saga, pero estoy tan sorprendida que no tengo ganas siquiera de hacer una reseña...

PD: si, lo releí dos veces, es que es tan lindo

This one is hard to review.

Love the writing and the story was good but I didn’t connect with the characters like the i did on the other two stories. I loved every single character from TID and TMI and would die for them all.

I think this story had too many characters, for one. I could use one less Blackthorn kid, tbh.

The love story was cute and honestly it’s interesting since it’s forbidden and could actually cause some big trouble. I truly wonder how they’re going to get out it.

I think I miss the shadowhunter formula. Special, somehow more powerful girl has a big enemy that wants her for something. Malcolm was bad but he wasn’t that bad. Maybe it’s because I’m reading these after Sebastian’s story and he’s the true big bad? Idk. Something just felt kind of blah for me…

Also, I hate the non communication trope. It would make more sense for Emma to tell Julian they can’t be together because of what would happen and watch them suffer that way. Not bring Mark into this.

Also, Mark! Idk what’s happening with his little love square he’s found himself in.

I did find that this book had a lot of rep, with Ty possibly being on the spectrum, Arthur’s mental health issues, and finally we get a bi shadowhunter!

Side note: I would like to read about Andrew and Arthur being younger and being caught by the fae. They would be an interesting story…

Onto the next one!

it was fine, but i didn't like these characters as much as the ones from other installments of this series, except for malcolm fade,
who turned out to be the villain and apparently died,
and kit rook who was barely there, so the best part of the book was the tmi-centric short story at the end

i don't tend to like romances where the characters start off already in love with each other, so julian/emma was a bore,
mark/cristina
felt a tiny bit rushed and
diego
felt like he was only thrown in to complicate the love triangle further.
mark/kieran
was alright but i'm surprisingly into the little seeds of
mark/emma
we got, though i know they're not endgame

the younger blackthorns definitely suffered from an overlarge ensemble cast, so dru and tavvy have no personality and livvy's sole character trait is being too attached to her brother

mark's storyline was quite nice, he's my favourite of the main characters, and while i don't really have strong feelings about julian as a character, his struggles with being parentified at 12 were well done and a highlight of the book

the focus on secrets didn't feel well-executed, julian's were mostly obvious, it felt kind of silly to keep the reader in the dark about cristina's when it was so... lame? pedestrian? unsurprising? it didn't feel like the reveal really added anything to her character and shrouding it in mystery felt pointless, and finally diana's character doesn't really make sense when the reader isn't privy to her motivations

the main plot resolution felt just a little exposition-heavy but overall i enjoyed the mystery and think that aspect was well-handled

final nitpick you don't need contrived excuses for your mexican characters to talk to each other in english, this is a book, you can just say they were speaking spanish and render the dialogue in english

What a delight it is to step into a world that hasn’t changed since I last read the original series.

The follow up of the mortal instruments is as much about love, life, loss and growing up as I remember it and it feels so new and welcoming at the same time.

The pacing and the twists are powerfully written and had me hooked on every turn twist and word, I can’t wait to start the second book in this series!
