A heart-rending story of how love and trauma resonate down through generations—and a history of Palestine made viscerally personal.

Devastating, heartbreaking. Usually I avoid these books to protect my mental health, but I don’t know why I started reading this one. It was all fine and things I read before until Amal said her family was in Shatila in 1981. That’s when I knew what was about to go down. And although I expected it, it shocked and horrified and opened up my wounds anyways. “Is this what it means to be Palestinian?”
