My words cannot describe enough how beautifully this book is written
For those “zionist puppets” who say it’s full of anger and rage.. how about you live through only 1% of the hell Palestinian people live through every day to understand where is the fury and raw emotions are coming from..
I read this book shortly after the last war on Gaza in 2021 to educate myself more about my lost country and perhaps to give myself even more hope that one day we shall have our free Palestine back

قد لفت انتباهي اختلاف عنوان الرواية بين اللغات المترجمة لها، ولم أكتشف السبب في ذلك إلا أن العنوان العربي للرواية "بينما ينام العالم" كان مشتتًا بالنسبة لي مقارنة بما جاء فيه، المحتوى. حيث أني لم أجد الكاتبة موفقة في انتشال رأيها الشخصي من العمل تمامًا، بل كانت حاضرة برأيها الشخصي في كل سطر وبين كل حرف.
رغم محاولة الكاتبة استنزاف القارئ في قصتها، ورغم مصداقية الأحداث المذكورة في الرواية، إلا أن قصة عائلة أبو الهيجا، كانت من نسج خيالها. ولا أظن أنها وفقت في اصال المشاعر التي أرادت من قراءها الشعور بها تجاه شخصياتها والأحداث التي رافقتهم طوال القصة، فقد كانت الرواية بلا روح على اللإطلاق. وكأن الكاتبة تحكي للقارئ أحداث من فلسطين بالطريقة الاخبارية، عوضًا عن حكايتها بالطريقة القصصية الأدبية. ولهذا، تغلغل التململ في كياني طوال رحلتي في القراءة من أول صفحات الرواية، حتى النهاية.
لا رغبة لي بمناقشة القضية الفلسطينية هنا أو التوغل فيها، وإنما العمل، والكتاب كفن أدبي، ولا أظن بأن الكاتبة وفقت في طرح العمل بجدارة. فقد جاءت الرواية بين يدي القارئ بلا روح، كزومبي يحاول استئصال المشاعر من قارئه بيما يحكي به. وقد حاولت سوزان، والتي لم تعش أبدًا أيًا من الأحداث الواقعية المذكرة في الرواية بنفسها، بأن تحكي قصة فلسطين ومعاناتهم لقراءها كونها ابنة مهاجرة ولاجئة من خلال عائلة أبو الهجيا، ولكونها نسجت هذه القصة من الخيال، لم توفق أبدأ في احياء شخصياتها، بل لم توفق بايصال معاناتهم كشخصيات وبؤسهم وألمهم للقارئ، بل وأيضَا فشلت في انهاء حكاياتٍ مسروقة بين طيات كتاباتها، وكانت شخصياتها مفعمة بالموت، وكأنهم يتقافزون من الكتاب ليجبروا قرائهم بمصداقية وحقيقة وجودهم! وقد جعلني هذا أشعر وكأنني أحضر نشرة اخبارية مطولة للغاية، لا رواية، أو عملٍ أدبيّ محكوم الصنع.
