WARNING! This book is NOT a gay rom-com. Yes, there is a gay couple that is about to get married, but honestly, they are not the main characters. This book is about a widowed middle-aged woman who lives on a farm in rural Louisiana and her character growth. She has dreams and she has to learn over the course of the novel that these are HER dreams, not her son's dreams.

This novel is more along the category of women's fiction, novels that deal with serious topics, but too often in a superficial way. Don't get me wrong, I love a well written women's fiction novel, and this was not terrible. But it's also not a novel that will live in my heart and mind forever.

TW: There is a LOT of homophobia and an alcoholic parent played for laughs

Read Big Gay Wedding, posthaste!
Byron Lane's latest book is absolutely hilarious.
It took me a couple of chapters to settle in on Chrissy Durang's Polite Society Farm. But then her son Barnett arrives home. And his fiancé Ezra. And his mother Victoria. Add in Paw-Paw and Nichole and I couldn't keep up with the laughs. There are also bittersweet moments and tensions to add depth to the "Countdown To Damnation".
You know what's on the horizon from the title. But how big and how gay will Barnett and Ezra's wedding be? Well, it's not all fireflies and organic fireworks. There's scandal, and a vandal.
Prepare to read Pride all year and pick this one up. Recommended!

I’ll admit, I didn’t have Big Gay Wedding by Byron Lane on radar until Booksparks sent me a copy as a part of their #SRC2023 #BooksAndRec list - and that’s a shame.

This book was everything, I genuinely snort laughed every time I saw the “Countdown to Damnation” at the beginning of every chapter. I laughed, I cried, I was angry - I literally felt all the feels. This had such an eccentric cast of character, most of whom are so loveable, even Miss Chrissy managed to win me over in the end!

Big Gay Wedding is mostly lighthearted, but also hits on some heavy topics, all in all this is one I highly recommend!
