I didn't finish because I was simply expecting something different. I was expecting lighthearted romance. But what I got was a kind of tragic story of a gay kid growing up with homophobic parents. And based on reviews, it seems to turn around? But the mom was blaming her son for her husband's death, because he's gay. That's just not okay.

Also the language was flowery, more like something I would expect from literature? Not bad, but just not what I was expecting or in the mood for.

The audiobook narrator was good, but my understanding of Louisiana is that the accent there can be a bit different than a more 'generic' southern accent. And maybe this story was nowhere near the bayou so the accent was right? I don't know.

I laughed and cried. This book really did give all of the feels - joy, hope, fear, love, sadness, grief and loss. One of my favorites for this year.

This was cute - it definitely had Schitt's Creek vibes, right down to the chaotic hodgepodge of characters. There wasn't a whole lot of plot - mostly things just kind of cleared themselves up and no problems lasted for long, but a story about a gay couple who doesn't have tragic problems is one that probably isn't told enough, so it was a good fit.

All of the characters were way over the top, but honestly, it fit with the book. I particularly loved the plotline about Chrissy and the farm - that was a lot of fun.

I’ll admit, I didn’t have Big Gay Wedding by Byron Lane on radar until Booksparks sent me a copy as a part of their #SRC2023 #BooksAndRec list - and that’s a shame.

This book was everything, I genuinely snort laughed every time I saw the “Countdown to Damnation” at the beginning of every chapter. I laughed, I cried, I was angry - I literally felt all the feels. This had such an eccentric cast of character, most of whom are so loveable, even Miss Chrissy managed to win me over in the end!

Big Gay Wedding is mostly lighthearted, but also hits on some heavy topics, all in all this is one I highly recommend!
