A period piece manga, and it's pretty promising and quite well drawn too!

Art: I really like the style, it feels unique. The values and hatching make it look very nice. Also the characters have a slight movement to their action, making the comic feel animated and lively. The expressions are quite good and the backgrounds are very detailed. It can be a bit repetetive, but all the panels look really nice.

Character: Our main lead is Asa. She's quite good, her character's simple but it still works. She's not the best lead but she's likeable and someone you'd want to read about. She has alot of charm to her. I'd give her a 6/10 for character. The old man comes off as unlikeable at first but you grow to like him over time. The characters fit the setting and themes well. Speaking of which is Sho. Sho is a side character but has a simple side arc of wanting to get into the Olympics. The side characters are done well here because they aren't pushed to the front, they're appropiatley given just a bit of time to shine.

Story: At first I was a bit iffy on the story, but after time the story grew on me. It has a nice town life feel. I think it's just a nice story. There's some great moments relating to the affects of WW2. It's quite a simple story but it's just done really well. It's not totally mind-blowing, but it is a worthwhile read.

I first heard about this book thanks to "The Omnibus Collector" on YouTube. It's definitely worth checking out! It starts off with a slice of life vibe, but there's of course the "big plot" lingering in the background. Mr. Urasawa kept me intrigued with how he opened the story of each character. Looking forward to continuing the series!

I enjoyed this manga way more than I thought I would! The story is great, and I love the characters. I find myself cheering on Asa so much, and I really appreciated the unexpected friendship she makes.

Captivating images and story that kept me turning pages. Love a good cliffhanger. On to book 2!
