Kendra & Declan have been my favorites in this series (along with John Loughlin) so I’ve anxiously awaited their story. I was not disappointed. Kendra may work behind a desk and been a total idiot for preferring the wolf over the bear but when they finally get together it is explosive! Declan may have issues but the big ol teddy bear is my kind of hero. Action, adventure and love it is all in Her Wild Hero.

Ohhh....deep in the jungle romance. Quite literally. I loved the set up for this book, jungle mission gone wrong, Kendra and Declan alone in the wilderness running and fighting for their lives. Very intense. There was so much action that a couple times the romance got a tad bit sidetracked - but there still quite a few very nice romantic touches and moments that Kendra and Declan experience as they run for their lives.

One of the things I've liked best about this series in general, is that the women can hold their own. They may not be the best at everything, but they have a strength and skill set that is an integral part to completing the mission. Kendra is a serious tough girl, which is a side that we don't get to see too much of before now. She's awesome!!! But, she isn't afraid of her softer side, and is one of my favorite characters so far in the series.

Declan is a big teddy bear - or so we think at first. But he when push comes to shove, we get to see some new sides to the big bear shifter. He's vulnerable, protective, and loving in ways that will melt your heart. I loved watching him start to open up to new ideas and new people. He makes an amazing hero.

The mystery of the hybrids continues and things keep getting more and more convoluted, but I'm hoping we get a few solid answers or leads in the next one.

Kendra is ANYTHING but weak and we find out just how strong she is in HER WILD HERO. Declan has had a crush on Kendra for years, but he has finally come to the conclusion that she will never be his. Only problem? They are teamed together on his latest mission and he can't get away from her.

We have gotten to know a little bit about Kendra with each book in this series. HER WILD HERO was her chance to finally get out into the field like she's always wanted and even better she gets to be close to Declan, the bear shifter she finally sees for the wonderful sexy man he is and wants for her own. I knew Kendra would kick butt when we finally got to see her in her own book and she didn't disappoint. Even in the worst positions she was able to keep a clear head and fight through them. Declan is a bit of a brooder and doesn't have the best communication skills when it comes to Kendra. He put his foot in his mouth quite a few times as well as assumed things that got him all broody when it wasn't needed. He is definitely an alpha male and constantly wanted to keep Kendra from getting hurt, but also was able to appreciate that she could also take care of herself.

There wasn't one part of HER WILD HERO that I didn't enjoy. I was engaged the whole time and the characters brought the story to life. The action is high and the world just keeps on getting better and better with each book in the X-Ops series.

I received a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca. This does NOT alter my view of the title.
Summary
Kendra has been working for years to get out of the office, so that she could work in the field. Now finally she has her chance., she is being sent as an observer on a mission to Costa Rica. Kendra knows how to fight, and use a weapon if needed, and has some unique talents up her sleeve no one would suspect of her. Declan, is a bear shifter, and is an expert with it comes to munitions and all manner of weaponry, but he has loved Kendra for years, but she has never returned the interest. He is given one job, when heading to Costa Rica…protect Kendra at all costs. When they arrive, Declan with his bear senses knows that something foul is a foot, and he turns out to be right. An army of hybrids are waiting for them. Declan and Kendra escape in the jungle, not knowing about their team, but knowing that the hybrids are after them. Kendra and Declan work together to survive, with hybrids surrounding them. Only by working in unison will they be able to survive, but a passion erupts between them, one that will prove them…

The Hero
Declan always thought he was a “monster”. His family has no idea what he is. He once was engaged, but lost her when she found out the truth about him. He doesn’t trust women, because every time he puts himself out he gets burned. He then works as a forest ranger, but then he discovers that he isn’t the only one that can shift into a animal. He gets brought into a elite organization, and part of the special ops group. Only they have certain gifts the others can’t comprehend. Declan is one of the best, even though he hasn’t embraced his full bear, he has the strength of one and uses it to his advantage.

The Heroine
Kendra has a connection to the Covert Ops. She works in the office, trains and has dedicated herself to going on a mission. What most of the others don’t know, she knows how to handle hybrids and how to take them out. The secret no one can know about, but despite what the other may think…she is more capable and talented than most. Kendra is strong and resilient, she is a fighter and a protector, and will defend herself if there is a threat. She is quite capable at handling anything thrown her way, and did I love her character. She also has a sweet spirit too, she yearns for love and passion.

Plot and Story Line
This is the first book of the series I have read. I was first introduced to Paige Tyler with her SWAT series. So I was so delighted to read this one. Looking back I do wish that I had read the first two books, but I was able to catch on quickly and the story centers around Declan and Kendra. Although I already bought the first book because that is where Kendra first enters the series and I would love to see more background on her, and other members of the team. I do love this theme…a romantic suspense mixed with some sexy shifter….it doesn’t get better than that. I enjoyed seeing the team and commadrie and the fun bantering that goes on between them all. I love seeing how they protect and fight for each other. In Her Wild Hero we see two sides to the story…we see Declan and Kendra fighting to survive on their own…plus some hot steamy jungle sex (whew….SEXY), then we see other members of the team join up to find them and get rid of the hybrids. Hybrids are way more dangerous than shifters because they don’t have pain centers…and once they get into a fight they only care about killing and nothing will stop them until they are dead…which takes quite a bit to successfully kill them. They are worse than zombies because they have all the strength and speed that surpasses shifters. And this team is outnumbered. Not the best of odds. But this team has something the hybrids don’t have….passion and will to live and protect those they love. I loved seeing both sides to the story, and all the action and subterfuge….intense and wild. Edge of the seat type feeling….who needs exercise, with Paige Tyler controlling the story…I think I might have lost some weight hehe.

The Cover
The cover is quite intense with the bold bright colors. I liked the pose of the hero and heroine here….bold and daring. If I were to change anything it would be the background since they spend most of their time in the jungle but it still works for me.

Overall View
Her Wild Hero is a stimulating and thrilling romance that keeps the reader on their toes. A tale of intrigue, mystery, danger around every corner, and a passionate love that burns hotter than the sun. EXPLOSIVE!!!

Review originally posted at RabidReads.com.

I’ve really enjoyed this series so far, and this book was no exception. DCO is a secret government agency hidden within the Department of Defense and Homeland Security. It filled with a group of shifters and humans, usually former military, who go out on missions that are out of the league for the local police and military. In this world, shifters are not known about by the general populus. And, shifters don’t generally shift fully into their animal.

The DCO uses these shifters for their own purposes. There are many different feelings about them at the upper levels. Some people feel that this is a bad idea and that these shifters are just a danger. Others feel that the shifters have rights. Either way, the teams generally consist of one shifter and one human. If the shifter becomes compromised, the human is supposed to put the shifter down and prevent any information from getting out about them. While the shifters tolerate this rule, they are not a fan of it as you can imagine. They also don’t really allow for “forinacating” between the agents.

Kendra has been in the books since book one. She isn’t an agent, but more of an office person. She is a trainer and writes up a lot of information about the training that is done for the teams. When she went out to help Landon and Ivy (the couple from book one) fight some hybrids (man-made creations that made with shifter DNA), she has wanted to go back out in the field. She finally convinces them to send her out on a training mission to Costa Rica.

Declan is a former forest ranger and a bear shifter. He has never really accepted his animal side. Because of this, he doesn’t have access to his full abilities. He has also had quite the crush on Kendra and has asked her out several times since he came to DCO. She always turned him down. He has finally given up on ever having more than just a passing friendship with Kendra. Of course, that is when she finally sees what’s in front of her.

The team arrives in Costa Rican jungle for a training mission only to come across some hybrids. There was no known hybrid labs in the area and these hybrids are different from the other hybrids that they’ve fought in the past. Things go all sorts of wrong.

This story is another great addition to this series. Not only do we have this romance, which was fun to read as they finally come together. But there is a ton of action. We also get to spend a lot of time with some of the characters we’ve met throughout the series. I loved watching Declan and Kendra come together. I loved watching Declan finally embrace his animal side. I also like seeing how he outsmarted these more intelligent hybrids. If you haven’t tried this series, I highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of paranormal romance or urban fantasy.

Angelo leaned forward and handed him the pack of cheese Tanner had given him. “Here, take this. Everything tastes better with MRE cheese on it.” Landon shook his head as he stood up and adjusted his NVGs. “I think there’s a T-shirt somewhere with that slogan on it.”

The military was good at a lot of things—killing people and breaking things being at the top of the list—but taking care of soldiers who couldn’t fight anymore wasn’t one of them. Veterans like that usually ended up on the street, where they didn’t fit in and weren’t understood. If the Veterans Administration safety net didn’t catch them—and there were a lot of holes in that net—they ended up like Tanner. Alone and on their own.

“Okay, I’m not sure how much this will help, but if I were you, the first thing I’d do when I got back would be to show up at her door with a gift of some kind,” Angelo advised. “Flowers. Chocolates. Hell, I don’t know—a plush tree sloth if you can find a store that sells them. Anything like that. Then make sure the first words out of your mouth are, I’m sorry for making you worry. Women like a man who can apologize when he’s wrong.”

Love love love the angst. So much angst in this story. And misunderstandings. And jealousy. Its my kind of story.

Also Declan is very forgiving for someone who was turned down a few times a week for 7 years!

I will definitely have to re-read this story soon!

Her Wild Hero was a very good story about bear shifter, Declan, and mission trainer, Kendra. I liked how Kendra realized that her infatuation with another DCO agent wasn't like the true love she finds with Declan. I also liked the continuing mystery surrounding the hybrids and why they continue to find more and more different types. I'm already anxious for the next installment of this series.

Satisfying continuation of the overall story arc. Good mix of paranormal/shifter with romantic suspense.
