I read a book like this that was middle grade probably around 2009 and for the life of me couldn’t remember what it was. Just the title of this book drew me in because it got me thinking about that book series from 2009. (Finally pieces clicked, it was the 39 clues series)
Absolutely loved this story! I loved the authors voice and how amazing each character was written. I can’t wait for book 2. Parts were predictable but the ending sure wasn’t! (Tiny spoiler) I thought the man in the locker was going to be her father… it was not. So I loved that it was unpredictable in that sense, (maybe it is because her mother’s secret but I won’t know until I can read the next one)
Anyway, 100% would recommend! It’s such a compelling story with twists and turns, betrayal, love, surprises. I loved it.

As someone who loves mystery/treasure hunting and movies about treasure hunting, I was very excited to read this and had high expectations. However, it was such a let down for me. I didn't particularly like the writing, and the clues and stuff were just a bit too boring. The short chapters were nice, but the mystery aspect of this book wasn't executed in the best way I think. So I won't be reading the rest of the series.
