I don’t usually read books like this. I love folklore/fairytale based retellings which is why it interested me, and the authors writing drew me in.

It is… gory, uncomfortable, dark, weird, and at no point did I know what was going to happen. It was oddly more sexual than I was expecting and I don’t think the story needed most of it, but that didn't ruin it for me.

It’s FOR SURE not a book for everyone. Again, dark and VERY uncomfortable, not scary, but I was fascinated by the theme of hunger and the monsters. I ended up really really enjoying this way more than I expected.

This book is well written. I DNFd because it just wasn’t the book for me.  The main character is so detached from some of the horrific things expressed in the book - which I know is a response to the things but as a reader it’s hard to get into it.

I’m pretty squeamish, but I did think this was very well written.

This book is painfully heartbreaking and raw with its emotion and depiction of brutality and suffering. Being looked down upon and treated as an ornament rather than a human. The painful expression of trauma and grief and abuse and some self loath. despite all these she has beautifully woven an intricately passionate and tender story of love, loss, pain and memory with poetic prose and descriptive atmosphere, setting a wholly gothic masterpiece novel. a book i would reccomened to read once in your life for sure.
