Beautiful dark fairy tale like story about trauma and love persevering through it and the damage left over. This gothic romance was raw and hard to swallow but so rich and entrancing. Loved it so much and could not put the book down.

really good!! darker than i usually read, but i see why it’s getting the praise it is - i actually wish it had gone a little darker at the end! my one criticism: the pacing. nothing substantial happens until 70% of the way through the book, and sometimes it felt like something would happen and then be undone and then happen and then- you get it. it just felt a bit all over the place, and like the author had trouble sticking to her decisions so tried to leave herself openings. with that out of the way, though, i want to praise this book - it has some of the best and richest writing i’ve ever come across. the author is clearly passionate about the english language; everything is vivid and detailed. the world-building was well done and easy to imagine, and i loved all the lore about the creatures. overall, i’d say this is worth the read!!

With grotesque, lush imagery and a twist that sends stones to the bottom of your stomach, Juniper and Thorn manages to grip the reader tightly and pull them into the depths, compiling a cornucopia of trauma but with a powerfully executed and emotional ending. Not for the faint of heart. Please read the content warnings.

This was one of my most anticipated books this year, and it definitely didn’t disappoint. I really enjoyed reading this book, as much as you can enjoy a book about abuse. It was horrific and dark and gruesome but I am very glad I have read it. I continue to love Ava Reid’s writing and I am very excited to see more from her.
