A brilliant, fun and imaginative story. A real shame that it was not translated to Dutch. But I'll be sure to translate it myself to my children. I'm sure they will love it.

And honestly, as a dad who likes to stimulate my kids imagination, the story was quite relatable. Also sufficient humour for adults as well. If you have a free moment and want to read something light, this one might just be the short book you're looking for.

Review of a Netgalley advance copy.

Delightful nonsense.

Very similar to the picture book "Fortunately, Unfortunately" by Michael Foreman, Gaiman's short story also has shades of the Baron Munchausen tales.

Retuning from a short trip to buy some milk for breakfast, a father tells his children all about his adventures on the way home, including dinosaurs, aliens and time travel.

Adults as well as children will delight in the stream-of-conscious storytelling, the silly and outrageous story, and the perfectly matching illustrations from Chris Riddell.

Perfect for that in between age that's beyond picture books but not exactly ready for Neil Gaiman's darker kid lit. My 6 & 8 yr old really enjoyed it as did I.

This book is about the adventures a father has getting milk for his children. It is absolutely the kind of nonsensical adventure I love to devour. I may not be a child anymore but I still loved this. It is beautiful.

I want to read every single thing he has ever written. .

An excellent bedtime story for a father to read to his children. How often is the dad the hero of the story? Well this time he is and in the most unusual ways! A lot of fun is here and each short section is packed with just the right amount of silly entertainment without being stupid. No complex back story, no lengthy prose, but plenty of clever fun. Well done, Mr. Gaiman!

Second time through:
I read this again since it is a battle of the books selection for 5th and 6th grades, and I couldn't remember it. I still thought it was really fun. The kids have told me they think it's confusing, though.

First time read:
This was really fun. My boys liked it and really enjoyed all the illustrations throughout. It was a super quick read, too.
