The first volume with Buggy the clown provides more characterization, humour, and suspense. It is malarkey at its best.

  • It's time to meet Buggy!! He was one of my favorite characters in the Netflix show, so I couldn't wait to meet him in the source material, especially since this volume is named after him! It was even more interesting to see the differences between the show and manga, as they diverge when it comes to Orange Town. Buggy's hilarious like I expected, there's just something special about a character who's born with a big red nose, is sensitive about it, but then brands himself as a clown and has a crew full of circus people 😂
  • We also meet Nami, a thief who only steals from pirates! She's a great navigator, but is not willing to work with Luffy due to him being a pirate. Not that this is deterring Luffy in the slightest 😂 There are just so many hilarious moments in this volume, from Luffy being kidnapped by a bird and dropped into Orange Town to Nami using him as a bargaining tool with Buggy!

One Piece is such a fun and quick read that also has a lot of heart. Oda does an excellent job of creating characters that you can instantly connect to. This volume had an absolutely heartbreaking side story while also making me laugh out loud in places. I'm excited that there is so much to read because this series is quickly capturing my heart.
