In terms of the Harry Dresden Misogyny Meter, he was slightly more bearable than the previous book. He still kept making weirdly sexual observations and wore out the descriptor "feminine," but it felt easier to ignore his remarks. Maybe I've just been desensitized to his antics. I still have hope he'll grow out of it and join us in the 21st century.
Most of the reason I loved this book is probably that I'm a bit of a werewolf nut. I thought the various lores surrounding the werewolves in this book were really interesting, and trying to understand them while watching the different factions go at each other was a lot of fun. I also really liked having Harry as the narrator for the events of this book, since I thought he brought a good amount of emotional insight and humanity with his narration.

However, there are other reasons I rated this book lower. At some point, the character has been shot and is brutally beaten with no time to rest or heal, but apparently there's time for his girlfriend to sensually undress him and bathe him before a big fight. Despite multiple injuries to his face, they have a passionate kiss without somehow hurting him. The actual mystery of the book is waylaid so much that the author almost has to remind everyone there was a mystery they are trying to solve through a weird exposition.
The lack of common sense, the weird pauses in the middle of action to have sensual or sexual relations, and the prevalent misogyny all made this book tough to read. I don't think I will continue with the series which is honestly a shame because it is a genuinely interesting concept. I would be really tempted to look up similar books or even fanfictionnif it skipped the lame misogyny and stuck more to the noir/fantasy world created.
