The monsters and magic were better integrated into the plot and urban city setting than the first book, but at times this book was boring to me. Also the main character’s male gaze got old really fast.

we LOVE to see some actual improvement in quality between books! the main mystery in this one had me hooked quicker than storm front's did, and while there was still a fair share of moments where the author was obnoxiously horny when describing a woman, not only did it feel like there were less than the last book but also this was basically just 400 pages straight of harry dresden getting the shit beat out of him and feeling utterly miserable so it balances out pretty well to me, at least! if nothing else i Will continue reading these books for murphy, god i love her so much lmfao

Werewolves and variations

Fast paced and fun. It's humorous, lighthearted, but sometimes Harry makes almost profound comments and that's what makes it great. And I love how he usually panics first and needs to work through it and decide not to be a jerk.
Is it sexist? Absolutely. Do I care? Not really.
