This comic is v much a slow burn, something that’s worth reading a chapter at a time. You could easily burn through this in 2 hours, but I think you’d miss a lot of the deeper emotional aspects of it. It was good read and I’m happy I took the time to delve into it.

Another beautiful story by one of the best modern comic book writers, a meditation on loss, grief, and love. As usual, Lemire's comics have this otherwordly emotion to them that is somehow still gritty, all too real, and vulnerable - a ghost story that sends you into a surreal universe between life and death, reality and dreams.

This is the kind of story I love from Lemire: focused on a believable character experiencing real emotions with anything otherworldly depicted in a very magical realist style. Amazing sense of place as well.

Jeff Lemire presents the story of a man literally and figuratively under pressure. An underwater welder by trade, Jack is used to working on the seabed in a pressure suit. But as he anticipates becoming a father, he finds himself haunted by unresolved issues from his childhood: his relationship with his own father, an alcoholic who disappeared when he was a boy. Lemire's black and white artwork is spare but compelling, and he makes excellent use of panel structure to convey Jack's feelings of isolation and emotional distance from his wife and the world around him. An outstanding example of the format, this is one of the best graphic novels of 2012.

In a fit of whimsy, I hereby announce I will give everyone five stars, but the reviews may not reflect it.

This was a good one, as the titular underwater welder can handle the pressures of the ocean but struggles with the idea of fatherhood. There is some back and forth between his past with his deadbeat father and his current relationship with his mother and girlfriend. Well worth a read, especially if you're a parent.

This book has been one of the most enjoyable and eerie graphic novels I have read in a while. Jeff Lemire presents an atmospheric tale of a man taking a twilight zone-esque journey and I enjoyed every panel.
