Such an exciting story! I really like the setting and characters, especially Aunty Mei. Her thoughts are pretty intriguing and the author uses her to explore a remarkable number of things in such a short story. I was left wanting something more though, hence the rating.

If knowing someone makes that person stay with you forever, not knowing someone does the same trick: death does not take the dead away; it only makes them grow more deeply into you.

A short but beautiful story about motherhood, family, and self-love. I would actually love to read a longer version of this and to follow Auntie Mei on her journey of self-discovery.

Excellent writing. I loved Auntie Mei. Some cracking one liners in here and such insightful character exploration in just over 50 short pages. I only wish it didn't end so soon. You never know, maybe this short story could provide the inspiration for a full-length novel? I would most definitely read that. Excited to read more that Li has written.
