So this is the last book of 2020 and it is another feminist book makes wonder about a lot of things.

I've been interested in this short story for a while and decided to listen to it on audiobook through BookBeat.

Despite being the equivalent of just 52 pages, there was a depth and a tension in this story that kept me intrigued from being to end. Auntie Mei is an enigmatic figure who is at times poignant as well as hilarious. There was no plot as such but the story was an interesting study of these characters and their experience as Chinese Americans.

Overall I really enjoyed this short story but I feel that it could be a whole novel or at least a novella. I would recommend this to anyone looking to read more diverse fiction and that enjoy quiet stories.

This was interesting and quite sweet. I think I need to accept that I don't really enjoy short stories though

Good short story, I wish it was longer though, I would have liked to explore the story of Auntie Mei further.

Such a lovely short story. Very simple, yet poetically written with many poignant sentences by Auntie Mei.

This was my first read for the Underhyped Readathon, running from the 26/27th of February and running until the 4-5th of March in 2016.

For such a short story, this is a fantastic piece.

Li manages to pack so much into such a tiny space and some of the lines in this narrative were beautiful. I don't want to talk about the plot, because if I say anything more than the blurb, it will spoil it. But this story really looks at themes like motherhood, what it means to be a woman, to have your own identity and the choices we make.

Auntie Mei is a really interesting protagonist because she works in a way that allows the reader to write their own self onto her, as if she were a blank slate.

I loved this story and I'm looking forward to reading more of Yuyin Li's work.
