From Him:

**Note - it is hard to put this in without adding a spoiler for January, but then each book includes a summary at the start.

Callum Ormond, after being captured by a crime boss, is now almost drowning in an underground oil tank. The enigmatic girl Winter intervenes although she has her own secrets and Callum cannot find it in him to trust her. But who else can he trust? He is on the run from the police and from at least two crime syndicates with their own agendas.

Despite himself, Winter seems to have information that might help Callum uncover the secrets that surround the Ormond family. The Ormond Angel, the Ormond Riddle and the Ormond Singularity.

From Her:

I'm getting very very worried about the people that help Cal. It's a fraught experience, and the new character of Winter is a good entrant to these books. Perhaps this is part of why this series might be aimed at boys, but would work incredibly well for girls as well. Both sexes are well represented in Cal's peer group.

The pressure is really increasing on Cal in February, and he's finding it very hard to work out who to trust, as well as finding his life on the run becoming increasingly uncomfortable. There are two questions out of this book - can he survive, will he weaken?

Apropos of very little - love the backwards page count that they are using in these books - we start at page 183, reading down to 0!

Cal Ormond returns in the second instalment of Gabrielle Lord’s Conspiracy 365 series.

Following the kidnap-heavy January, Lord rightly avoids repeating herself.

Sustaining a single headline mystery – The Ormond Singularity alias The Ormond Riddle alias DMO - over 12 parts takes a lot of skill, and Lord does a great job in judging how far to move the story forward. Some questions are answered, some more are asked and generally, the plot develops without much in the way of filler.

As with January, the action continues almost without a break and sustains interest. Whether this is resulting in a little barrel scraping is debatable, with the zoo sequence in particular being perhaps a stretch too far.

One of the best contributions of February to the canon is the introduction of the character Winter Frey. Slightly cliche (to the point of embarassing at times), but the femme fatale with questionable motives adds an interesting layer to the story. The audience are genuinely kept guessing about this enigmatic and interesting addition to the cast which will hopefully remain a prominent thread going forward.

There is a little gritting of teeth to be edured as Lord, a 64-year-old woman at the time of publication in 2010, writes as a 15-year-old schoolboy who still uses MySpace instead of Facebook and doesn’t know the definition of “enigma”, but in the main Cal is a believable and likeable lead.

With another cliffhanger ending and plenty of unresolved issues, March is well set up to follow.

A perfect series for rainy days.  Each book can easily be read in a few hours, the writing pulls you along quickly as Cal once again finds himself in danger at every turn.

February may be the shortest month but there is still plenty of trouble waiting for our hero.

This one was more engaging than the first. Now I know the characters and the plot is picking up. Cal's adventures and discoveries are interesting and now I understand why this book is a "magic worker" with reluctant readers. I couldn't wait to start book #3 after I finished this one!
