I remember trying to read this in elementary school after I finished Little Women. I didn’t enjoy it, and didn’t get very far in the book. It’s quite different from the first book of the series. As a parent, though, I really like it and find it inspiring! I have learned a lot about education and child rearing in the 1800s and Little Men was absolutely countercultural.

the beginning of the book was pretty great but then action was lacking once again, this book was still a good sequel to little women
Reread after Little Women, of course. I still love this book and all the characters. Still makes me cry, in THAT chapter.

SO WHOLESOME, so good. I laughed, I cried. It was actually such a sweet book.
I just have to say one thing though… why do Jo and Laurie still have chemistry?!?! Why are they still clasping each other’s hands and stroking each other’s cheeks!? Why do I get the vibe he’s still a teensy bit into her?! Just needed to get that little rant out. I’m still bitter. Also, if I was Amy I’d be like… you two need to stay far away from each other. No tender stroking of cheeks, you guys have too much history to be purely brother-sister-friends.
That is just a side tangent and takes up like 3 lines of this beautiful book. I’m excited to read Jo’s Boys and reread the first two!

I really enjoyed this sequel to Little Women. There are a lot of parallels to the first book, but I thought it was done well. The whole "gardens" metaphor was beautiful. I loved seeing the growth with some of the boys in this book.

At times the chapters and little adventures felt rather long and other times just the right amount. Overall I enjoyed reading this one, the characters were diverse and enjoyable. And the lessons they learned felt important for young boys growing up together.
