I’m a little disappointed, I felt like the first part of the book with Lilly was really scary and engaging, but the rest of the book fell flat.
The whole “boys will be boys” ideology was exhausting and just outright outdated. The graphic scenes and the characters thought process behind them were questionable.

Okay there was 100% SA in this and it was treated as if it was nothing because it was a woman attacking a man.... Also didn't love the writing of the women.
The story was intriguing for sure, I'm not mad I read it.

Grace is a mom that returns to start a relationship with her daughter Monica that she left at birth. Grace starts to build a relationship with her daughter and grandkids but her son in law doesn’t trust her at all. His fears soon become true but they seem to have waited too late. Still new to this author but I’ve read a few of his books, so far this one was my least favorite. The plot was really good but somewhere it lost its way in my opinion.

All I can say is wow. I was not expecting this story to have my mouth open as many times as it did. My only complaint is that the ending did feel a bit rushed and I personally just wanted to know more about the mom however the book ended without a cliffhanger so I would recommend!

Massey does a great job at creating an insidiously spooky atmosphere in Nana. It gets real disturbing at times. I could see it translate well into a movie adaptation. What prevented me from enjoying this book more was the disconnect I felt from the characters. It might have to do with how the reader knows more than the characters about what's actually going on for most of the book. Otherwise, I think Nana is a really interesting horror book that uses supernatural elements to explore the impact of toxic and abusive parents.

This is wild. In a weird way.
There are quite a few plotholes, weird sex scenes, and misogyny en masse. Do not go into this book if you have any of the following triggers: S/A, death of animal, cheating.
There's untapped potential and we're left with what feels like a rushed ending.
The writing is captivating and accessible. I read it in two sittings, kept turning the pages.
The characters are not that likeable or smart. Except Pat. Not a fan of the tropes in here either, but that's a personal preference. I really didn't like the "boys can't help it" attitude, borderline justifying lying and cheating behavior. Not sure if this was an intentional choice made by the author, but either way, it turned me way off.
