This book was the absolute best thing I have read in a long time. I have been in love with the series since book one, and can't even begin to express how much I was anticipating this read. Sarah A. Parker...you gave me all the feels in this book. You are an extraordinary storyteller. I am so in love with this world, these characters and their story. Thank you!! I refuse to give anything away for other readers...but wow...that was a journey...

This is my review for books 1-3.
🚨SPOILERS BELOW🚨
The series started off great; the plot was easy to get into and the writing was good. I blew through book 1 in a day. Then book 2 came and it dragged for me. Why did we need all of those POVs?! Why did we need nearly 50% of the book just to detail Orlaith’s journey at sea to Bahari. Book 2 felt like a jumbled mess. There were points when I honestly had no idea what was going on. I felt myself losing interest but pushed through because I wanted to make it to book 3 since I knew from reading a spoiler that book 3 is when Orlaith and Rhordyn finally do it. The first sex scene did not disappoint. What did disappoint, however, was the fact that Rhordyn doesn’t even make an appearance until about 60% in and the sex scene doesn’t happens until the last two chapters. Book 3 was frustrating for me. It felt like Orilath couldn’t catch a break. Like why did there have to be so much suffering and violence? WHY?! But what really irked me was the fact that for 3 full books, we’ve seen Orilath spiral deeper into herself/her depression. A major source of that is her “realization” in book 2 that she killed her mom. However, at the end of book 3 when Rhordyn finally tells her he was the one who killed her mom there is no discussion, no time to heal, Orlaith is suddenly magically cured and I kid you not, like 2 pages after that is when the sex ensues.
I had really high hopes for this series but I don’t think I will continue. The books are very long and it feels like there's more and more filler scenes. Also Orlaith’s character development, or lack thereof, really started to grate on me. Lastly the books just got very… dark. That being said I would try a different book/series by this author because the writing was good!

While I definitely still enjoyed book three of this series it didn’t suck me in as much as book two did. I will update my review as I think it over more!

The first book in this series was problematic but readable. The second was boring but readable. This one? Boring and unreadable. I don't DNF books, but I've been struggling for two weeks to read even a chapter a day. It's bad. I don't think I'm reading the same book as other people, and my intrigue over what happens to Kai can't even keep me glued to this book. Definitely won't be coming back for others.

I’m so disappointed in this book.
I loved the first novel - I thought the story was dark, but electrifying. The characters were deeply flawed, but intriguing. The voice that the book was written in was new and gripping. I wanted to keep reading to learn more!
The second novel was good, but not great. At that point, we’d learned more about Orlaith and her background, and finally understood her relationship with the other characters. I could keep up.
The third book is confusing. The author is using the same, unusual tone to present the characters inner thoughts, but it’s disjointed and incomplete, making me more apt to skim than enthrallingly drink in every word. And, the character flaws are old. We know Orlaith is naive - so why does she keep making silly mistake after silly mistake? Shouldn’t she be growing/changing/learning? And the books can’t continue unless Rhy comes back - so how long do we have to wait? How will he come back? These are questions I just want answered, rather than patiently waiting to see the twist the author will take to resolve the conflict.
DNF at 24%. I just couldn’t get back in to it. Saddening, given the grit and novelty of the two previous books.

Thank goodness we got some joy after nonstop darkness in book 2. Please please keep this up - love the characters and the world they are in.
