One of the strangest romantasy series I’ve read, but I can’t resist these weird folks with secret monsters beating against their rib cages. In this episode, which is a clear improvement over the last book, our heroine finally smartens up and sees she’s been played and executes a solid plan (with the help of almost everyone she meets), while also returning to her original MO of tending to growing things and caring for all creatures great and small. I struggled with her brattitude in the first couple of books, but she’s likable here.
Bonus: shirtless hunk chopping wood outside a cottage that only has one bed and it’s raining and clearly they need to ditch their wet clothes.
In the fourth (and hopefully final) book, I sure hope our girl gets to unleash her power, and that big-brother-energy Baze finds peace. And that Kai and Vicious get their HEA, too.
