I have to admit that my feelings and thoughts about this series are kind of all over the place.  I think these books make very good first impressions and upon reading them for the first time I really enjoy them (including this one).  However, when I go to reread them or taking a few days to digest everything that happened in the books, I don't have the same feeling as my initial reading so it leaves me kind of conflicted.  Did I enjoy this third book?  Yes, but there's just something holding me back from rating it higher.  I think I've said this for the other books in the series and I think it still holds true for this one is the fact that it doesn't feel like any other fantasy book I've read.  I find it very much a character driven fantasy first and I feel like the plot comes second.  I feel like this book and series in general definitely has a darker tone, there really isn't any pockets of lightness or humor that I really enjoy in other fantasy books I've read so I think you must go into it knowing that it is darker and deals with some tough and traumatic themes but it doesn't really give you a break and doesn't have any touches of lightness.  Orlaith is in my opinion a very tragic character and you constantly see her goes through the worst but I think that makes you want to keep rooting for her despite all she has been through.  I do like her character journey from the first book until now and I like there it still feels like there is a lot left for her character to grow.  I think in the first book she is very much a naive and sheltered girl and as a result of that you constantly see her make uninformed and reckless decisions and you can't really blame her because those around her (especially Rhordyn) kept her in the dark about a lot of things and had she been told the truth from the start perhaps her choices would have been different.  I think I enjoyed the beginning of the book a little more because it felt like more happened which is kind of funny since the whole beginning of the book I just wanted Orlaith to know that Rhordyn was alive and for them to be reunited.  I still struggle with the idea of Orlaith and Rhordyn as a romantic pairing because of how he played a guardian role for her at such a young age and with how he treated her.  It is by no means a healthy relationship but i think this is meant to be a darker fantasy so perhaps that first in the realm of this book.  I also have to admit that I was a bit annoyed that Zane and Baze were captured and there was still quite a bit left in the book but it wasn't resolved or revisited by the end of the book.  I guess its kind of a good tactic if you want your readers to continue the series because if you care even a little about these characters you have to continue with the next book to find out what happens.  So I think I'll definitely have to pick up the next book because there are so many loose strings in this one.  I have to admit that I know I'm an impatient reader and I feel like this series does require the reader to have some patience because I feel like the story does move forward a bit slowly.  I think this is what leaves me so torn about this series.  There are so many good aspects about it but I feel like I want the story to move forward a bit more I'm a bit over Orlaith's suffering at this point.  I'm still going to keep reading this books but I just kind of want things to start looking up for Orlaith in the future because I feel like that would make a more enjoyable read for me.
