first: thank you to my wonderful friend for checking this out of the library for me. i really appreciate the kind gesture. :)

(also enjoy my review packed with avatar gifs because why not?)

anyway, back to why i didn't like this manga.

first, what i did like: SEBASTIAN.

i don't care if he's the protagonist, sebastian is probably one of the coolest demons ever created (apart from bill cipher and a few others, of course) and i will forever love his complexity and his demon . . . ness. (if that's even a word.) also, he's the only good thing about this manga. the atmosphere created wasn't too bad either.

okay, now onto the negatives.

1. the characters (apart from sebastian) were annoying and unlikeable
ciel himself (oh, by the way, his name is french for "sky") is a character i have very mixed feelings about. just because he's got such a nice name doesn't mean he's as nice as his name is. he just felt like an ordinary twelve-year-old spoiled brat who made me want to knock some sense into him for the entirety of this manga. the other characters were also hecka annoying. the chef? the gardener? the maid? they all acted like kindergarteners and it really frustrated me.

2. plot?
just because i wear glasses doesn't mean i don't know a plot when i see one. but i was completely blind to the plot throughout this manga.

nothing made sense. at all. i looked up the plot and it wasn't developed at all. like ciel sells part of his soul to sebastian, but that's only implied and not specified.

review to be continued.

Demon butler? Mysterious family, murdered and one heir left. Definitely intrigued!

Well I've watched the anime, and I loved it, so I think I just might read the manga. I heard that the anime doesn't follow the manga perfectly. I also heard that they cut the demon Ciel stuff, because that killed me...

Wow, that took half my workday! But finally finished up the first volume (again) and it's just as fun, wacky, and dark as the first time I read it, loved it. Also, I'm just realizing how little actually happened, we only got one case solved! And I hadn't realized how the first anime episode is...not here?! It was a lie?! I thought for sure at least the first few episodes followed the manga, but no. So if you watched the anime, I'd jump on the manga from the start for a more intriguing story. Still as humorous as the anime but far more developed and dark

And if you've never heard of Black Butler but enjoy murder mysteries, demons and contracts, horror, Victorian-era London, very handsome men, morally grey (nearly villainous) leads, and are in need of something funny but with a plot, check this out

Picked volumes one and two up from Barnes and Noble on a whim when they were having a 50% off sale for manga. It's cute, definitely had a peak of popularity on Tumblr that I was not a part of but I'm interested to try the anime and see what it's like as well.
