I think the story had potential but the execution didn’t work for me. The relationship felt very superficial. The book spent more time on the food the fmc was cooking than on building the relationship. I also didn’t like how easy she accepted being kidnapped by a kraken. Like no shock at all. Her lack of reactions to the murder attempt against her, knowing there are paranormal creatures, thinking she owe a life debt, not being able to leave the island, and the lying just didn’t make sense at all. The pacing was also off.
