The longer I listened to this book, the more I hated it. I actually liked it for the first 15 hours, but when i realized I had another 5 more hours left, I started to lose patience with the characters, and then it quickly spiraled into a hate listen. I enjoyed [b:The Cuban Affair|34466751|The Cuban Affair|Nelson DeMille|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1504298921l/34466751._SX50_.jpg|55586853] even though I thought the romance was tacked on, but here the casual misogyny that Brody had towards Taylor just grated on my nerves. I assume the misogyny came from the son because it wasn't as obvious in other books, but perhaps I just haven't read enough DeMille novels yet. It wasn't until I read another review that I realized the story was based on Bowe Bergdahl, mainly because, despite Serial podcast producers' best efforts, I don't actually care about Bowe Bergdahl. The other thing that grated on me was the attempt to ratchet up the tension at the end of the book with a "will they make it out alive" plot line, while anyone with eyes can see that this book sets up the beginning of a new series, so yes, they make it out alive, amazing!
