Still pretty good, but for me it lacked the sparkle and joy I found in Extra Yarn.

Always follow the dog's nose. I read some reviews and realised I'd missed something really obvious pertaining to one of the theories about what happened. Interesting!

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I know I'm not loving it.
Is it simply tongue in cheek or is there some other completely esoteric philosophy behind it that would completely go over the target audience's head.

Love the illustrations. Subtle but so great! Enjoyed this one.

What an imaginative book! It was so marvelously simple and yet so wonderfully loud. It charmed the socks off me.

Gosh, I'm not sure if I enjoyed this book (3.5 star for now) because it is incredibly frustrating yet at the same time it gives me so much to think about. It's hard to explain, they are always so close to the treasure but continue to dig to find better stuff yet none of it is ever uncovered and they fall through the book back to where they started without any hole. Anyways, one thing is for sure always listen to the dog. ~Ashley

This book had me feeling content, frustrated, and enjoyably bemused.  Barnett and Klassen are a powerful duo, and one I hope to see more of in the near future.  Klassen's illustrations and Barnett's text are intertwined in such a way that the entire book would fall apart if they weren't together.  Without the text, the boys' motivations would be lost, and without the illustrations, the irony would be gone.  Together, they stir up emotions in the reader from the rising action to the quite literal falling action.

This is a picturebook at its finest.

I read this at BEA. The humor is all in the illustrations and kids will love being in on the joke.
