Overall, I really enjoyed this series. Harkness wove a really strong and chewy universe with so so many tiny foreshadowings, callbacks, symbolisms, that it was all really breathtaking all wound together so perfectly in the end. After book one, there were times where a brand new yet somehow ~extremely vital foundational piece of information~ about the world or characters was thrown in to raise the stakes, which kind of irked me and disrupted the flow for me as a reader, but I'll forgive it.

I tried for almost two months to get into this book and I just couldn't do it.

This was a pretty good conclusion to Matthew and Diana’s story! We finally get so many answers to all the questions that have been brought up over the last two books. There’s so much side character developments which was nice to read about. There’s even a more definitive plot line in tracking down a rogue vampire with a pretty sinister agenda. I just wish that it wasn’t such a longgg book. I listened to the audiobook and had to push the reading speed to 2.6 times to get through the slower bits quicker. The book also started out in third person point of views from several of the characters and I wished it had stayed that way throughout instead of a majority of it being told in Diana’s first person point of view. She didn’t have the most exciting first half of the book. But again, a good conclusion to the series and I’m happy with where the characters wound up in the end!

2.5? These books are infuriating. The world-building is rich and fascinating, but literally every other character is more interesting than either of the leads. Although the problem with Matthew is less that he’s boring and more that he and the ‘romance’ between him and Diana are hugely problematic.
