I don’t get the point of this. This is some kind of Alice in Wonderland/Repo opera nonsense, which would make sense in an au, but it makes no sense here.

I was hoping the other reviewers were wrong. I was unfamiliar with Nocenti prior to reading this volume and I hoped the negativity was just geeks gone amok. Nope.
The story, the dialogue, it's all bad. In the case of the dialogue, horrendous. No coherence to the story, jumping all over, just a painful read.
Then there's the art. While it's inconsistent all over the place what really drove me batty in this book was the mangled panel arrangements. They were hard to read and the majority of the time there didn't seem to be a good reason other than a bored artist for why they were so incoherent.
All in all, an editorial fail -- someone should have caught all this crap before it made it to print.
I bought it, because I want to support strong female characters, but I wish DC had put out something that didn't make me wish I hadn't paid for it.

Every criticism of this volume that I've seen makes total sense to me. The dialogue is clunky AF, the panels are disjointed, Selina and Bruce both feel very out-of-character... yeesh. Confusion. Confusion reigns supreme. The inclusion of Joker, or rather his story arc here, felt unnecessary. The artwork for the most part is halfway decent. 1 star for Nocenti's writing and I will be avoiding her forever after, but 2 stars for the overall thing bc sometimes the art was cool. And I like Gwen.

I’d like to know who at DC is allowing Ann Nocenti to write anything thing more than her name? This woman can NOT write! This is the second major title I did enjoy before she put her nasty little hands on it. This volume of Catwoman with the tie-in to “Death of the Family” I had high hopes for & it didn’t seem to flow, the characterisation of Selina was an oversexed, adrenaline junkie with the attention span of a goldfish. After reading the first 2 volumes with Judd Winick’s writing & then reading this is just painful & disgusting. On a bit of a positive note I found Rafa Sandoval’s art made this book more bearable & did it without having to show Selina’s tits & ass on every page.

SIGH. I didn't hate this volume, but I can't say I liked it much, either. It was solidly "meh." The biggest strike against it was how choppy the storytelling was. We jumped around a lot, and the "Death of the Family" tie-in didn't have a satisfying conclusion. It was as if Joker got bored with Catwoman and just... let her go? Then, we get the weird Black Diamond heist, in which so many things are just... not explained, including how we get from point a to point b. Things just happen.
And then, the thing that irritates me the most... Selina/Catwoman is consistently drawn in anatomically impossible poses meant to accentuate her boobs and/or ass. In a few, her back would literally have to be broken to get into the position. We made so much progress with the realistically proportioned Catwoman of the 2000s, and some editor at DC decided to go right back to the 1990s of impossible proportions and pointlessly revealing costume.
Perhaps worse than even that is how superficial and vain Selina is in this incarnation. All she does is think about making out with every dude she sees, parties, and sexy toys. This is Catwoman written as a male fantasy of what Catwoman should be...even though it's written by a woman.

I'm so tired of Joker/crazy villains. And also, heroes infected with something that makes them unreasonable and full of rage. This book is full of that and I was really losing interest. The end picks up where we see a little of the mystery surrounding Selena's past. I'm hoping the next volume will be better.

I only read this one to complete my reading for the Death of the Family arc. I was really underwhelmed. Based on this sampling, it doesn't seem like Catwoman is a strong enough character to carry her own series. Or maybe it was the way the author handled her. Either way, the plot with the Joker was the thinest in the arc. It served no purpose.
Catwoman steals stuff in a tight leather suit that is never quite zipped up, then Batman makes her feel guilty about it. Where's the depth?
I also thought that the Batman/Catwoman relationship was off in this one, like the events of Vol. 1 didn't happen.
