This was sooo scary... I remember seeing the trailer as a child and being incredibly afraid. It's the kind of story i hated and still am scared for. The kind were mothers are taken away, which is devastating if your mother seems to be all you have

First of all, I did not know the movie Coraline was a film adaptation. I know this book is tailored to young adults but this can be enjoyed by anyone at any age. The pacing is perfect for the storyline. The storyline has the pacing of children stories. Captivating MC. I wish I was as brave as Coraline at her age.
The moral of the story is: the grass isn’t greener. It’s actually dead or nonexistent.
I recommend this to someone look for a quick read that has a great plot line and pacing.

My tweens loved it, I wasn’t into the creepiness of the story, so we’ll meet somewhere in the middle as far as ratings go.

Coraline shivered. She preferred the other mother to have a location: if she were nowhere, then she could be anywhere.
3,5☆
Well, this was deviating slightly more from the movie than I thought it would.
It was very interesting to see how the story would evolve without Wybie existing and the cat seemingly taking on his role as Coraline's companion.

I really enjoyed the darker tone of the book's world, with Coraline's character being way less annoying and loud than in the movie. She was more pleasant this way. And the extra scenes that the movie didn't include were quite interesting as well. However, with Coraline's more enjoyable personality and the book's imagery being more terrifying (to me, thats a good thing), the movie shows more emotions, making the world and characters feel more alive, which I felt was lacking in the book. Both mediums have their positives and negatives.
With that said, I have to say that I, to no one's surprise, actually still prefer the book over the movie. Coraline was an interesting adventure.
