There’s something uniquely touching about Coraline. She perfectly encapsulates childhood and the courage it requires to grow up.
Okay, I know this is a children's book, but it creeped me out to the point where I honestly couldn't read it in the evening before bed. Sad for me, but that speaks volumes about the writing. It was wonderfully creepy and dark. The imagery was vivid. Breathtaking story and fantastic storytelling!
Frustrująca przez większość czasu. Kocham tę historię, ale animacja to znacznie lepiej odegrała
Neil Gaiman proves for the umpteenth time (to me, at least) that he's the best at what he does. His imagination knows no bounds, a fact that is known, but this time his penchant for the macabre finds itself in the children's books territory. And he succeeds here as well. His writing reflects innocence, a sense of adventure and despite the scary subject matter, never do you actually feel like the writer has forgotten that he's writing a book for kids. Reminding its reader of the many things that scare us when we're kids, Gaiman subtly tells us how far we've come and in other words, how brave we are to have survived all that. It's a childish notion but I'll be damned if it didn't feel good while I read it. A must read for Gaiman fans. Four stars.
Every time someone uses the adjective "other", I now associate it with this story!
