Read this book after it was recommended in a book club and it was short enough. I had seen the movie so I knew what would happen but it was still a good book, I don’t remember being completely invested in the book but it wasn’t a bad read. Wouldn’t read again one seems enough

This was a miss for me which I was a bit surprised about. In this children's novel we are following Coraline a girl who is a bit bored. When discovers a door that seems to go into another apartment that shouldn't be there, she encounters the "other" world. She soon has to outwit her "other " mother to get back to her world and find her parents. The first 1/3 of this book was more interesting to me and then it just fell flat to me and never recovered.

A really good children's novella by Neil Gaiman. I would highly recommend Coraline for kids in the middle grades and up.

I think this is the perfect spooky gothic vibe novel for a young reader. I think middle grade is probably a fair assessment of the reader who could appreciate this. I will admit that it has some dark moments though. It really nails the spooky and gothic. I thought the writing was amazing and adding in some magical realism really helped to push along the story. To be honest I'm a little scared of the other Mother.

Neil Gaiman beautifully captured the whimsy and adventurous mind of a young child. I read this when I was 20 but it made me feel like I was 12. Also, I watched the movie a couple months after reading this, and it must say it does not even come close in quality compared to the novel. The addition of that brown haired guy completely undermines the theme of neglection that coraline faces from her parents and waters down her autonomy in her own adventure.

Coralines strength, reliance, and empathy are so admirable.

Cute little story for the Halloween times.

I would name my daughter Coraline, though not because it sounds like her old pops' name. Wife would wholeheartedly disagree, but I have proven to have sound judgement in such matters.
