I both could barely put this down and had a horrible miserable time reading it
I spent the majority of this book thinking that Blythe was an unreliable narrator, that she was projecting her negative feelings about motherhood onto her daughter.
But after I put it down, I couldn't stop thinking about how much Blythe questioned her own sanity and perception of things. She was isolated - all she really had was Fox, a husband who invalidated her in so many subtle, insidious ways. He spent their marriage alternating between love bombing her and convincing her that she was the problem and no one else, all while permitting and enabling Violet's bad behaviour. He ignored and dismissed any evidence that gave credence to Blythe's concerns, and I found myself dismissing all that evidence too until that last chapter.
It's like Fox had gotten into my head too, making me question what I was reading, the way Blythe questioned her own experiences.
