“Whatever they did in the woods, the feeling had started to sink in that it was more than a scary night in the forest. The sense it would only get worse weighed down on him.”

This quote summarizes the book well. Yes, it does get much worse. This book is filled with slaughter, tense moments of doom, and the sadness of loss.

For a first novel, this is impressive!

My hat is off to you, John Durgin!

I loved this. The collection of characters felt real, like kids you'd encounter on your own street, hanging out and pulling together, making videos and mistakes. I loved seeing how they bonded, tried to support each other, and get through a nightmare they unintentionally released.

This had its moments of gore and violence, but it was peppered through and in the right amount to lead the story forward. The focus was more on the character development, solving the mystery and trying to overcome the evil. I was rooting for these friends and want to know more. Is there a sequel, a prequel, will we get to know more about what planted the evil in the first place?

I recommend this if you're feeling nostalgic, it captures the essence of another era while making it feel relatable and modern.

Boy howdy, this one was a wild ride!

If you're looking for something dark, something with a solid kids-on-bikes trope that still manages to feel 100% fresh, something with a Satantic-small-town-panic vibe, and you *LOVE*LOVE*LOVE* short horror novels... this book is for you!

SERIOUSLY... give it a try!

I loved it. The narrator was especially fantastic.

5 stars! Highly recommend.
